| A
general view of one of the five bench
shops we have here at Shebbear. You can
see here Daren Millman giving a short
morning demonstration/lecture in this
case about “glues and glueing”.
These are known in the workshop as “Dimblebies”
and are named after the great british
journalist Richard Dimbleby who set up
the original series of, now long forgotten,
“Dimbleby Lectures” A “Dimbleby”
is a short talk or demo where we show
you a process or technique.
It can be specific like
sharpening a scraper or can be longer
and more general subject like “Veneering”,
in which case a series of Dimblebies are
developed to cover the subject.
The aim is to occupy the
mid morning Tea or Coffee break with productive
time and not take you away from the bench
too long. We aim to bend our schedules
to fit you guys so we often will run or
re run series on a specific subject as
the need arises.
Not all Dimblebies are technical,
David Savage covers areas ranging from
Visual Thinking to Time Management with
lots of creative survival stuff in between
.
