The workshop is situated in the countryside, about 10 minutes from the village of Shebbear in North Devon. The nearest towns are Torrington, Holsworthy, Bideford, Barnstaple, and Hatherleigh, and students tend to find their own accommodation either nearby, or in, one of these towns. The course administrator, Carol Savage, is here to assist you in finding accommodation and many students take up places vacated by those leaving as they join. Some students share accommodation and we have a list of houses owned by former students who now will let them to current students. As a guide price, to rent a room in a shared house could cost between £220 and £270. To rent a family house could cost between £400 and £600, and to rent an apartment or small house could cost between £350 and £500 per month.

We strongly advise that you have some form of transport, more than a push bike. The workshop is in the countryside and even getting a bottle of milk requires a ten minute drive to the local village.
It is possible to get cheaper accommodation than this; we have students that stay on site in caravans, or tents. At the end of the year they might sell the caravan or camping equipment. One thing to bear in mind is that you’d have to negotiate your ground rent and the provision of electricity with Ted Lott, the owner of Rowden Farm.
